Oscar LaDell is a Singer-Songwriter based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. Raised in a rural seaside village in the South of Aotearoa/New Zealand by bohemian American immigrants, Oscar grew up nurturing a love of old music & fantasy books while earning pocket money as a farmhand. A second generation musician, LaDell grew up listening almost exclusively to Blues & Soul introduced to him by his parents. The results of this musical diet are immediately evident in his work. Inspired by musical traditions of resistance, LaDell’s music is deeply evocative in its oscillation between the personal and political.
Direct, yet hard to define, LaDell’s songs are anchored by his rich, storied voice and feature minimalist arrangements that recall an atmosphere familiar to him from a solitary upbringing in the coastal wilds of Aotearoa. With his upcoming debut album Untouchable & preceding singles, Oscar tells the story of living his 20’s in the 2020’s; a coming-of-age characterised by heartbreak, resilience and the need for change.
